mixed
document viewers
There are friendlier ways of delivering collections of documents
than a rudimentary CD file archive. Powerpoint, Acrobat, Word
plus movies and sound can all be accessed and displayed side
by side in one easy to use viewer.

Though full new media authoring may not be within
the realms of every budget, a CD ROM is still the most convenient
way of delivering a collection of electronic files. Typical applications
are;
- Conference
follow up
- Press
Information
- Sales
collateral material
- Distributable
Archive
- Study
Courseware
- Sound,
Image or Video Portfolio
Typically,
content files will be in one of the formats listed below, and for
many in-house applications a simply organised folder structure is
perfectly adequate. But if the disc is to be distributed more widely,
then it makes sense to provide a simple but elegant way of selecting
and viewing the content.

By
including a menu based file launcher along with appropriate 'viewers'
on the CD ROM, a user friendly. more easily accessible product is
created.
A
single program is created which is included on the CD ROM. When
launched with a double-click it presents a simple interface. Any
corporate graphic can be used for the background and custom buttons
are added to access individual documents. Files on the disc can
then be 'viewed' as described in the options below and a facility
to do download and copy files to a local hard disk can also be included.
Powerpoint
Whilst lacking cutting edge multimedia capability, Powerpoint is
the most popular tool for presenting information visually. As the
most popular 'multimedia' authoring package, there's a proliferation
of great presentations that don't warrant rebuilding as
Word
Big collections of Word documents are popular. Launching from a
carefully structured menu into the Word viewer makes accessing hundreds
of files easy and encourages usage. The documents retain their original
formatting and graphic or tabular content.
Acrobat
The best way of viewing print on screen. Files can be viewed in
the standard viewer featuring all the standard buttons and controls
or within an uncluttered window with simpler push button access
to the sections. We can also undertake internal indexing and hyper-linking
of raw Acrobat files to buttons or content menus.
Quicktime,
AVI and MPEG
The overriding issue with video, is ensuring it runs comfortably
on the viewer's machine. Newish PCs and Macs are all capable of
running full screen video but is this always a good idea? Quarter
screen is a much more agreeable format especially when just inches
away from a monitor. This also allows the rest of the screen to
be used for associated information or branding. VCR controls can
be provided for the user along a with a full-screen button useful
when presenting to groups. We can undertake conversion of content
from original video tapes as well as creating CD projects from already
compressed files.
HTML
This relies on launching a browser window and permitting normal
navigation. Features such as video and Flash are supported. Original
files often need on re-linking to make a complete site run from
a CD-ROM.
Finally,
it's typical to a top and tail a collection of files with an opening
screen plus company contact details and a website link. Compilation
CD ROMs can be developed for both PC and Macintosh platforms.
